Holy Spirit, like a waterfall

Your call is rapid, insistent.

The flow of water goes straight down

To erode rough surfaces,

Wear them away completely.

Our inconsistencies, at odds with Jesus,

You wear away as we pray.

Clear and bright in sunlight

The water flow will go on and on,

Whereupon cleansing happens.

We too, require this process,

You Holy Spirit, preparing us for Christian service.

We must go with the flow of You as the Spirit,

If we are wanting to develop a likeness to Jesus,

Preparing us to travel homewards, heavenwards.

As we hear the waterfall,

Let us hear the Spirit’s call.

It may be urgent, it will be relevant.

So let us respond, not hesitate, nor prevaricate.

‘Carelessness costs lives’ the war slogan said.

This can readily be applied to faith.

Carelessness loses sight and sound of Jesus as Lord,

Brought by You Holy Spirit, taught by You, the Spirit of wisdom,

Whose main purpose is to enhance human holiness.

A waterfall does not drip away slowly,

Just as if it had all day to complete its task.

Holy Spirit, You too, flow rapidly, if we but ask.

Ask of You to show us the very Spirit of Christ Jesus,

And of the Father, all three making a Trinity.

Ask to be shaped and formed

Beneath the demanding flow of You, as clear water,

Descending like a crystal clear stream,

Taking away the errors of our days,

Allowing us to feel the closeness of the Lord Jesus.

This will be seen as we become increasingly holy.

Holy in outreach, in all You, Spirit Lord teach.

Holy in love, all of faith’s effectiveness is from above.

Holy in results, for the Lord Jesus life is gifted us.

Holy in all of our daily purpose of outreach.

Let us then respond well to Your call.

So when we hear this call to freedom,

Alerting the heart, mind, will, conscience or imagination,

We decide to respond with ready devotion.

We will see, set at liberty from satan,

Our life flow, go directly, readily forwards in faith

In all the ways our Father asks of us,

Through the Lord Jesus, by means of the Spirit teaching us.

The Spirit’s impact and influence are ever good for us,

As they help us to focus upon the finest example of Jesus.

“Now by this we know that we know Him If we keep His commandments,” (1 John 1 v 3) Spirit given,

Leading us forwards to heaven, the home of perfect love.

Lord Jesus, he or she who loves his or her brother or sister, we come to realise has been influenced by Your Spirit. “(S)he who says (s)he abides in You, ought him (or her) self also to walk (though life) just as You did.” (based on 1 John 1 v 6)

This does not happen unless we possess Your Spirit of holiness. But we are asked to “Pursue a righteous life” (1 Timothy 6 v 11 The Message) being of right standing before God, our position in You Lord Jesus, as assured by the Spirit, developing “A life of wonder, faith, love, steadiness and courtesy”. (Cont.) Please may we be helped to find and develop a perfect love, Your love in us, Lord Jesus. Thank You for sending us Your faith shaping, life enhancing Spirit, for whom we must yearn so as to learn wisdom. Amen.
